I toss and turn while flying in the sky…something keeps me awake.
Eureka! it's Eureka
I haven’t stayed true to the promise of publishing one of these bad boys on the weekly. But why?
I could give some excuse that “life just got so busy” which it did. But that’s just an excuse and excuses are cop-outs.
Truthfully, I hit a mini writer's block, which got paired with leaving town. The thing is, just like positive things, negative things can gain momentum. It takes intentional energy to break the pattern and redirect energy.
Repeated actions are what turn into momentum.
I wish I had a magic pill I could swallow that allowed me to break free from creative ruts. But I’m learning even my ruts offer insight into how I function.
Mostly, my creative ruts show up in the form of overthinking, leading to stagnation. I’m not sure if you know anything about stagnation, but in my experience stagnation is the opposite of forward progression. And as a growth advocate, progressing forward is at the top of my list.
Now that I’ve written away my guilt for not sharing a newsletter for a month, I can give you some insight as to what the heck I’ve been up to.
On April 30th I made another orbit around the sun, I also left for filming in North Carolina/Japan.
I have been working on a documentary that is following a para-athlete on the way to the Paris Games. His name is Carson Clough and he is a triathlete (swims, bikes, run)
I believe he is writing a pretty cool story, and my job is to amplify it to the world.
As I’m coming to find out, the whole para-world is littered with compelling stories. Each athlete has their struggle and is pursuing something greater. It’s inspiring to be around.
One of the most popular questions I get is “How do you find these stories?” My response is normally something quite slick like, I don’t find them… they find me.
I like to think of it like this; There are two ways that you get connected to something.
You find it or it finds you. Or in a Disney movie, you find each other.
Like a German Shepard who is trained to find narcotics, I’ve been attempting to train my schnozz to sniff out stories. The truth of the matter, there are stories everywhere. It's about finding one that talks to you and telling it to the best of its ability.
When you put something out into the world…it listens and responds. (I will have to write a whole separate newsletter sharing thoughts on that)
And while telling others stories is so important; it’s also important to remember the most important story you will ever tell is the story you tell yourself about yourself.
So my offering to you is to check in with your story. What can you take control of? And where can you let go of control?
I can’t wait to share more about this documentary film and my adventures in Japan.
That place changed my life.
be well,
Fletch
(For you readers who like a synopsis at the bottom here you go)
-I’m back (but I never really left)
-Creative ruts are real, don’t give them power or they will gain momentum
-If you’re in a rut, take action and break it.
-Put out into the world what you want to receive more of in the world.
